Model B302 Grooved End Butterfly Valves - options
Stem Extensions
Stem extensions can be provided to permit remote operation of the valve in any required length . Stem extensions are available in lengths up to 3 metres (10 ft.) . The top flange of the extension stem, plug shaft diameter, and distance across the flats on the plug shaft are the same size as the valve selected . This design allows interchangeability of gear operators, actuators, and adapter bushings from the valve mounting flange to the extension stem top flange .
Adjustable Sprocket Rim
The Babbitt Adjustable Sprocket Rim provides for remote operation of the butterfly valves in high, out- of-reach locations . Specify the sprocket number size, and chain length . (Chain length = Height x 0 .6m + 0 .6m) .
Torque
Torque is the rotary effort required to operate a valve . This turning force in a butterfly valve is determined by three factors:
• Friction of the disc to seat for sealing • Bearing friction
• Dynamic torque
Breakaway Torque is the total of the torques resulting
from bearing friction and seat/disc interference friction
at a given pressure differential . This value is normally the highest required torque to operate a valve, and is used in sizing actuators . The torques listed are valid for water and lubricating fluids at ambient temperature . For dry and non- lubricating fluids, contact a GRINNELL Mechanical Products representative .
Butterfly valves, sizes 200mm (8") and larger, when used on liquids, show a marked increase in dynamic torque, which tends to close the valve . For this reason, gear operated or actuated valves are recommended .
The torque listed is for EPDM . When calculating torques for Buna-N or Fluoroelastomer, multiply listed torque by 1 .25 .
